Hello,
Am in the middle of repairing a Glowworm flue-saver 55f

It wont spark.

1- fan runs
2- pressure switch is making contacts - heard the click and multi meter checked
3- check ignition lead continuity - OK
4- check distance between pilot and spark electrode - 4mm ok
5- i can see a capacitor type thing on the circuit board cling and flashing with the same tempo as the spark might, its next to the HT coil. (see pic below. red pen pointing to it)but still no spark.

Conclusion - i think its the board but can any help confirm that it's 'f'ed using a multimeter? Customer is an old biddy so i want to get it right first time. thanks.

thanks guys

Did you check electrode continuity DD368? If that's shorting the pcb may be okay? I'd most likely test to see if the lead is sparking and there's power to the gas valve! Have you not been accepted into the gas safe only zone yet DD? Can get a lot more technical in there TBH 🙂

u mean the ignition electrode? yes i did check that...continuity ok....and i can't see any damage to sheath,,,,,will have another closer look tomorrow.

thanks

It could be one of two thing DD, the spark is shorting to earth (external) or weak (internal) as you've concluded IMHO 🙂

Probably new spark electrode & lead req'd, it short's onto the case near electrode & can't usually see it, but it causes the capacitor on pcb to spark.

Same as aggis ! if not sure start with cheepest part first ! wount hurt to fit a new lead & electrode anyway

id hold an earthed driver near the ignition terminal see if theres a spark coming of the board and work forwards
