I have a Worcester Greenstar 30CD1 conventional boiler. 7 years old. GC 41-311-71. As the full burner kicks in there is a groaning noise for about 5 seconds starting at a medium pitch then going lower.

1. Condensate trap was cleaned. No improvement.
2. Worcester advised changing the diaphragm near the fan. No improvement.
3. The CO2 levels were checked and needed adjusting. Slight improvement.
4. The water channels within the Boiler were cleaned twice with cleaning fluid. Slight improvement.
5. Now Worcester are advising trying to change the gauze on top of the heat exchanger. But this seems to be speculative which, since it would cost £160 + labour, is expensive guesswork.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Where does the noise come from and why? Does anyone have a solution?

Its a Worcester ! get rid of it, from what you say they don't have a clue what's wrong with it ! if you want to keep boiler get them out on a fixed price repair, then its there problem for the next 12mths.

Thanks! But I hope someone else can come up with a suggestion of a solution my plumber can have a go at!!
