Updated or big kw immersions are a good idea BUT on high demand they alone might not cope. also they'll make quite a marked difference on the leccy bill.

It's not 3 phase. I ve talked to her about her potentially high leccy bill but like she says, no hot waster no customers, who wants their hair done in cold water? There's no mains gas so it has to be electric. The current cylinder recovery time is 57 litres to 45 deg in 60 mins. Nowhere near enough. I can't find any info on what the recovery time would be by up rating immersions.

I think the place to start would be a 6 or 9 kW immersion in existing cylinder. A 6kw titanium immersion is £125 though, but could be re used in a new 300l cylinder if necessary.

I look after a few hair salons, she might not want anything on the walls but i have converted the salons i look after from normal combi fed DHW to 8.5 kw showers and they've never been happier. Tell her if the electric heater breaks down the shops shut it's better to have independent hair washes for each backwash chair.

Electric showers don't cut it in some premises!

Thanks for that info ermi, the updated immersions look to make a big difference. We talked about showers it was a point blank no from her on that.
I can see no reason why heatrae sadia would object to a 9kw immersion being fitted to the existing cylinder. I know changes original spec but they ve voided warranty anyway. If I just change top immersion to 9 kW and leave the bottom one at 3kw for overnight recovery it might help. They could leave 9kw one on all day as it's thermostatically controlled.

I have g3. I spoke to joule today as it's one of their 300l cylinders I was looking at replacing it with if necessary. They had no problem with the 3kw immersions being replaced with bigger, in fact it's listed as an option, and I put in original post I would speak to heatrae sadia before doing it.

Rock on then why not 9kw on both the minute savings made overnight would be surpassed by the benifits. Solar?

The salon is in a row with a flat above so not sure solar would be possible. But I never even considered it when I was there so that's worth another look.

Not sure 9kw on both is necessary really. The overnight recovery time is fairly irrelevant as nothing is used after 6pm or before 7am.

its all usage dependent. if theres loads of people who have a few minute rinse all day long ( one in one out) the immersion wont recover enough.. fit the bigger immersion and change all the shower heads to eco standard to slow the draw off down a bit.

Are Eco standard shower heads similar to fitting flow restrictors?

no mate. its just shower heads with an eco setting..It just increases pressure without the flow.

have you tried having the bottom immersion running during the day the top one will only supply a small ampount of the total capacity while water is being drawn of constantly

If there's room my vote goes for 2x direct unvented cylinders in tandem, no replacement for displacement, would take a lot to empty 2 300ltr cylinders.

Or check out the specs for the latest Elson thermal stores. I've been very impressed with these so far

My missus owns a busy hair salon and I mean busy she has 2 backwash going all the time using 2 electric shower units.
