Hello, this is my first post on this forum so be gentle...
I've got a halstead ace he 30 combi boiler which i've had no problems with since installation 4 years ago, however the boiler now starts coming on randomly ie middle of the night or whenever i turn the cold taps on or flush the toilet - it displays the letter h in lower case when this happens??? Everything else seems fine as hot water is pretty much instant with the H.displayed on the board & central heating fires quickly, my only concern is that i've monitored the gas meter & it is using gas so it's obviously coming on when i'm at work aswell, upon reading some opinions these obviously aren't the best boilers on the market but i don't have a spare £2000 to replace it with a so called better boiler and just hoping the fault isn't too serious- any advice will be greatly received
Thank's !

if you haven't already get it serviced ,you need a gas safe engineer to take a look could be any number of things tbh see what a service troughs up

Thank's for the quick reply ! A GSR heating engineer had a quick look (for free) & looked through the manual & said something about there being a device to keep the system from freezing but it hasn't been cold for a good few weeks now - i know nothing about boilers & just don't want to be replacing parts on the boiler if they are working fine & it is something else that is the problem- is it recommended to turn boiler off at spur box when i'm not home or will this harm the boiler over time? Another engineer is meant to be turning up at the weekend to have a look.
thank's.

Thank's for replying, i wouldn't know about any of the above i'm afraid, pressure is reading 2bar if this is of any use?
Thank's.

These boilers do have a pre heat on the for "instant Hot water" which means it keeps the water in the boiler at a certain temp which could be why you notice it working. The h means hot water demand. but as far as it coming on as you flush the toilet i dont know thats a wierd.

I had this problem on a halstead ace(not high). There was a sligh leak on spindle for the dwh microswitch so the switch was shorting causing a call for heat. Used a diaphram repair kit and all was good.

thanks for replying, yes i've had mixer taps all along - just had a new set fitted recently though to replace traditional swan neck ones to modern looking ones with a lever style action for H & C & for the pressure, these have been fitted with tails but no isolation valves because a ceramic sink is in the way & previously the old taps went from 15mm copper to 10mm copper straight onto the taps - no tails & the boiler is literally 3ft away from the taps if this affects anything?
only noticed the problem after taps were fitted but i don't like pointing the finger & don't like blaming people where it could be a fault with the boiler

thanks for replying, so it could be something as simple as that, i don't mind paying for repairs & a service - i just don't want to be ill-advised & throw money at something if that isn't the problem

Same boiler different problem ACE HE 30 Combi-

After boiler has been in use (Heat or Water) there is a smell something like nail varnish drying or that when one collects clothes from dry cleaners-
Sounds peculiar - any ideas-
