The Halstead Ace High boiler has had everything checked out or replaced and it still has a lockout problem......

Generally only in a morning or when the boiler has been standing for a while...

In a morning the central heating comes on with the time in a morning and the lockout light is lit with the pump still running

If the boiler is put into water heating only ...... in a morning if you open the hot water tap the boiler locks out (red light ---- no temperature overrun)

Cancel the lockout (with the switch) and it runs OK the hot water comes on and the central heating will run Ok ----no matter how many time you use it ..... unless it is left for a while then it locks out again

The only thing on the boiler that has not been replaced or checked is the gas valve ...... could that be sticking? if so why doe it not stick all the time?

Any comment or helpful advice appreciated..... from all you Halstead experts out there!!!!

Pete

It could be the gas valve sticking, not uncommon, what do you mean why does it not do it all the time,it is every morning 🙂
The fact that it locks out only after it has been off for a while points to machanical faulty
the most common fault for lock out is dirty fan drum and slightly blocked venture' causing failure of air pressure switch could also be aps itself
Halstead parts are expensive, not advisable to replace willy nilly

Thanks for your reply Puddle, as most things (including the board) have been replaced ... my thought was the gas valve

Take your point re mechanical failing , but looked at most things...

Had the venturi off and cleaned it removing all the calcium etc and checked the fan and that was OK

Aps .... would that drop out over night? .... could replace it.... thats one thing I have not done after seeing the fan working..... mmm thats a thought

Thanks again.....
All comments appreciated

recon its the fan try some oil on the bearing and try next morning to eliminate frozen bearing.

hey there pete did you ever get this problem resolved??? i have exactly the same issue and pretty much everything on the boiler has beed repleced including 2 new pcb 😡 wery costly but its still happening in the same way. It can work for a couple of weeks with no problems. then if the weather is cooler and the boiler has been left to stand for a couple of hours it lock out in the same way yours did

someone help me please

I have exactly the same problem, I too have replaced the pcb board very expensive wish I had not bothered but the advice was it was faulty.
Ours comes on run for about 30 secs then goes into lock out.
We reset it sometimes 2 or 3 times but it will always restart
It will run fine then until timer stops it then the same issue again.
WE called an engineer out and he said its prob the fan. (however a above its free to turn and runs happily when the boiler is operational)
I' reluctant to spend any more on a 9 year old boiler.
If its an easy fix I'd like to know as its a large expense to change especially as we also have a vertical flue.
