Asked to service and remedy a fault on the above boiler. It cuts out after 15 minutes, then eventually runs for a shorter and shorter period. The motor continues to run, pump pressure stays puts, its like the fuel supply is cut off. It takes a couple goes on the reset button for it to fire again.

It was running a bit lean judging by the deposits in the heat exchanger, it has a new nozzle and I replace the ropey looking photocell. CO2 readings are spot on, pump pressure too. Tried a new control box, made no difference. Resistance on the solenoid is fine at 2.2Kohm.

Sounds to be running faultlessly, no coughing or spluttering, the flame just sounds like it stops.

Tank is pretty much level with the burner, with no tiger loop fitted and customer has noticed a smell of oil recently.

I'm thinking maybe the non return valve in the nozzle assembly could be playing up when it gets hot. Any ideas?

Sounds like it could be fuel starvation with the run time getting shorter each time, have you checked the oil flow before the pump and have you checked all the filters. Thats where I would start before checking further.

agree with kimbo, start with the basics before you start looking any deeper for other issues

As Roger says, 100% typical symptom for coil, time between lock outs gets shorter because the coil resistance breaks down the hotter it gets.

Dead right I didn't notice it was the heatslave with the danfoss coil I thought it was the riello burner on the system boiler
