Serviced a gas fire today came up against a problem with the fluing, I labeled appliance AR with the advice of GSR. Some people have in the past thought me to be a little heavy handed with my ID/AR labeling, but at the end of the day its only me looking out for my clients well being.

The facts:
The gas fire is situated in a flue box.
The liner is not sealed at the top properly see picture far right.
The Flue is sound and has an acceptable draw
It has a ridge terminal
The flue liner is 125mm and its been bodged into a 175mm terminal adapter(its one of those twist & lock ones) and taped up with closure plate tape.

Can I get a 125mm too 175mm liner to terminal adaptor?

I've always been taught that in a situation like the one above you would have pre fab twin wall SS flue sections. but gas safe say it will be alright aslong as I get the correct adapter liner>terminal and perhaps put some insulation on this exposed section of liner.

what do you guys think?

It's been a long time since I've seen liner used as you describe in a loft space. They would be wrapped with fibre wool! I'd question what you've been told by GSR mind! How would you support it, at what intervals? Inadiquate support is AR and I haven't a clue what the regs are on supporting flue liner in loft space!!

If it were me I'd be suggesting replacing the flue with a rigid twin wall flue or the fire with an electric one!! 😀

It shouldn't be flue liner, especially in the loft. Needs to be twin wall all the way. Cap it and tell them to go electric, work out a rough price for doing it properly. Don't spend to much time on the quote because they probably wont have it done.

bodge!

It looks like they have taken the stack down at some point, then decided to use the chimney again so taken it to a ridge vent?

as leo said it should be twin wall in the loft space liner can only be used within a chimney,it can chill and stop flue pull the other aspects are just a disaster that install is ID,ridge vents also have issues of there own,the seal between the vent and make up can fail

It had been install by a gsr company 9 years ago.. its pretty poor really isnt it? the appliance is safely turned off/isolated anyway
