Hi guys i'm new to this forum and i think its great.

last week i went to service a boiler that i had installed about 18 months ago and the boiler was great. A glow-worm betacom 28a.

Last year i also installed a radiant gas fire at the same address, last week when i was servicing the boiler i noticed that the closure plate tape around the top edge of the fire had completely come off the wall.. The wall is sort of a decorative masonry brick so the tape has obviously not stuck as well as it should of.

The customer is aware of this because he has tried to put his own black nasty tape over it, still hasnt stuck.

So, where do i stand on this? He didnt want me to service the fire he made that wuite clear when i serviced the boiler for him. All im worried about is that if he pops his cloggs because of that gas fire not been stuck to the wall, im going to jail or something :/

It was fine when i left it.

Any feedback would be great.. Quite a stressful job i'm sure you will all agree..

As part of boiler service you also carry out a visual inspection of other appliances. If you see a potential problem then you issue a warning notice as applicable ie 12.3 AR closure plate not adequately sealed and get him to sign if possible.

I agree

you need some angle irons (or brass) drilled / screwed into brickwork all around the opening, That way the plate and tape will stick mate

What makes him think an iffy closure plate is safe? In this instance id like to see GSR also being informed of AR situations and getting in touch with the customer and sending him with plenty of scary leafleats and such like informing him of the error of their ways.

Ring the custard up and offer to re-seal the plate with the correct tape, free of charge. That way you can sleep at night and he can extoll your virtues down the pub, hopefully bringing you some more business
