Honeywell course

hey just wondering if anybody had gone on the Honeywell installers course lately? i'm booked on it next wednesday and just wanted to know what to expect really.

Cup of coffee and bickies? Doubt you'd be offered a bacon sandwich. Little talk on health and safety and where all the fire exits are. The rules on not smoking and if you want to where you can. An intro on who all the people are, their names, where they're from ...

Then, at around 10 o'clock, you might actually start to learn something!!

I was going to go on one but my last job probably taught me as much as I'm likely to need. Hope I'm not being too arrogant with that thought as there's always something new to learn.

Have a good day - nice to meet other plumbers sometimes and realise that you're better than them (not in my case of course!!)

where do they hold their courses now ?ive found that even if the course isnt up to much you always come away with some knoledge and a chance to hear how others work so alwways worth the day think im due one soon myself any recomendations ?

Honeywell are a class act and would have thought their training would be also

the course is from 9 to 5 so they must cram plenty in.

Steve, I went to their Dartford centre for the course last week. Gotta be honest, I learned nothing new. Good if you have no idea of controls at all, but not advanced enough for me. Only cost £30 and I booked it after talking through a problem with someone on their tech line.

I figured I'd be taught lots of fault finding, but basically you listen to a lot of sales talk, then wire an s and a y plan on a board, get given some goodies and go home.

Sorry if this is not what you wanted to hear, just my opinion mate.

no it's fine danny. i've printed off the usual stuff about y and s plans just be good to get to practice not bunched up in an airing cupboard. i know it's only £30 but it's all experience in the end.

Thanks for that Dannypipe. That's why I've been so hesitant on booking one. If it was about fault finding, how to use a multimeter to identify the faults, a session on testing and re-wiring an unlabled system then I'd be booking a course up.

@ DNIA - Thats what I was hoping for mate, but not to be.

@ Steveb - Its all ways confidence boosting to do things in a safe environment where if you make a mistake it doesn't matter. You wire it up and it drives home how to do it in a practicle sense. It's very rare that any training is a complete waste of time...I just wish it had been a bit more in depth.

It will be interesting to hear your opinion after you've been.

Ive booked on this course, gutted now, are there any other courses out there that go into the fault finding more?

well had my course today. basically it was as danny said, a certain amount about Honeywell products how and why they work etc. building regs l, g and p. powerpoint slide show. wiring up s and y plan systems. morning coffee, three course lunch and afternoon coffee (held at hilton hotel).

Any fast trackers there? Hopefully you had a good chuckle with some others or were you a large group ... of one?

no there were 15 of us.the honeywell chaps were a good laugh and helpfull in answering any questions that were put to them. no one admitted to being a fast tracker!
