I live in an apartment with a cold water tank. The cold water tank feeds the cold water tap in the sink and the bath. Recently, I refurbished my bathroom, and according to the plumber who fitted the new taps, high-pressure taps were fitted. Consequently, the water from taps is of a low volume and rate. I wonder if the main water supply could supply them? Please let me know if this is possible. The plumber who fitted them said there was a reason it could not be done, but I can’t remember what he said. There appears to be no good reason for the cold water tank. If it helps, the apartment was built in 1986.

I also wish to dispense with the immersion heater, but I am interested in installing a device that would provide instant hot water for a bath, handwashing, or shaving.

If you have any questions, ask away. Hopefully, I can answer them.

To improve the flow from your high-pressure taps, connecting them to the main water supply could help, since cold water tanks can reduce pressure. However, your plumber might have mentioned concerns about rules, pressure issues, or the need for major plumbing changes. For instant hot water, think about getting a tankless water heater or a point-of-use heater, which provide hot water right when you need it. It’s a good idea to talk to a plumbing expert who can check your setup and suggest the best options for your apartment.
