hi can anyone help just had new bathroom installed, shower/toilet/&handbasin, now having problem with warm water rising back up cold feed pipe in hotwater tank, pushing warm water back up pipe to cold water storage tank in loft causing water to come over stopcock & out thro overflow not doing this all the time just now & again. can see vapour from warm water coming up thro outlet in bottom of coldwater tank when hot water is turned on and no other appliance is being used. any sugestions regards drogba

Well presume you have a combi for hot, giving mains pressure and cold off tank, low pressure and you have probably fitted high pressure fittings in new bathroom
quickest way out ,if pressure ok ,is to remove cold feed tank and put tank cold feed on mains, should sort out problem until then,do not use shower and only have hot or cold on at taps, one at a time

Sorry read your post wrong, you have a hot water cylinder, and water being pushed back from cylinder into tank, would suggest reverse of what I said, sounds like one of the new bathroom outlets has been plumbed to the cold mains, not the cold tank feed, this will be backing up the hot pipe work into cylinder, turn main stopcock off and see which cold outlet in bathroom stops straight away, that is the one that needs changing back to tank supply, bet something to do with shower cold supply
