Homeowner here, I'm NOT a plumber, but I was hoping I could find someone on a forum to help me as I've had high success rates in the past with this.

Please see attached pictures.

So one morning I was taking a shower, and the handle straight up snapped off. This is what I am left with. I could not figure out how to remove the cartridge and I don't know what type/style it is to look it up. We have been showering in the basement for about a month now and we are very ready to get this thing taken care of.

I bought a brand new shower valve kit, not sure if it's the right kind or if it would just be easier to replace just the cartridge and handle? I have no knowledge on how to do any of this so any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Side note, this shower is the only water source in the entire house that has low water pressure, related? Not sure.

I would be looking to take the broken cartridge out, and trying to find a replacement!
A bit inconvenient if you have to turn the water off for the whole house though!
Do you still have the original handle/lever and its surround? If not then new shower I guess.

As per Shaun - unclear if you are holding the box of a new replacement, or it's the box from the original.
That box is for a valve with a diverter - to bath or shower - is that what your current shower valve does/used to do?

Re valve removal, I can see two flats on the outside of the disc/nut holding the valve in place.
Does the outer chrome sleeve unscrew or pull off so you can get a spanner on those flats? (but only after the water is off😄)
