Just moved into a new house and can't figure out how to turn the radiators on. There are no obvious dials or valves to turn. Central heating is definitely set up however it's just the radiators that are off. Tried turning the dial on the side of the radiator shown in pic but didn't do anything and kept turning with no effect. How do I turn this radiator on???

the head is missing from that right hand rad valve but it will be open because of that (as long as it isn't stuck)
We need to know what controls you have
Eg time clock, room stat etc ?
Send a pic of those if you can.

Are you sure the heating is turned on? Feel the large pipes coming out of the boiler. I suspect its not on at all, or out of water.
The valve in question is missing it's thermostat. It should look like this.

Ps. Where are you based? As I have a rental house with one missing like that and the same wood chip and carpet!

Well I`ve heard of people only leaving one light bulb when they move out but never of them taking the head from radiators before, whatever next? 😀

Hi Jess, chances are the head which is missing from the RHS of the rad has been overcome by turning the other end off. You'll need to remove the cap on the left valve, then open the valve with an Allen key.

This is assuming that all your other rads work!

To OP
Sometimes they leak a bit so have a towel handy
