Hi all, just bought a house and can't for the life off me figure out how my hot water is been heated.. I had a Honeywell controller thingy that I swapped for a hive, when I turn on central heating boiler fires up etc house gets warm all is well but here's the bit that confuses me...

When I turn on the hot water nothing happens boiler doesn't come on or anything. I have a unvented cylinder up stairs but the immersion heater is switched off so I have no idea how I always have hot water.. iv added some pics of the system.. The boiler is a feroli system boiler that is mains fed no loft water tank

have you got hot water at the min?

also the hot water is heated via your boiler and is controlled by the hive system

Hi cheers for replying.. yes always have hot water I don't understand how the boiler heats the water though when I turn on central heating via hive boiler fires up etc. When you turn on hot water or it comes on via its schedule on hive the boiler does nothing, no noise or anything. Iv turned hot water schedule off completely on hive but still have hot water 2 days later haha

Yes you will as the cylinder is very well insulated and if you don't draw off/ use much hot water it will last for ages

And most likely the hot water times are nearly the same as your heating so you don't see it fire on it own ?

Hi
Can you check if the electric immersion heater is switched on. There should be a switch on the wall.
This could be why your boiler doesn’t do much and will be costing a fortune in electric.

There are two types of hive it looks like you have the correct one as there are two lights in the right hand corner follow the directions below you will know what you system is doing. Cheers kop

Cheers for that mate but also when hot water schedule is on hive flashes a green light instead of a solid light when central heating is on... On the pictures iv sent is there any more heaters on that tank? What are the yellow and silver box at the bottom etc?

Yellow box is your heating valve which will control the on and off times of your heating and room tempreture , the silver box is the hot water valve which will control your hotwater tempreture to 60 degrees and the on off times set in your hive thermostat , kop

It’s possible your zone valve is faulty and stuck open.
So when your heating comes on it heats the tank aswell.

Next time the heating is on feel if the pipe above the silver box is roasting hot.
