Struggle to make the money I think boiler repairs are worth as the parts are so expensive.
Can anyone give advice on what they charge. Ie call out to a breakdown, go get a part and fit it, time spent 2.5 hours including travel, part 150 quid. What would you guys charge? And also would your price change if it was for an estate agent that provided you with a lot of work? Thankyou x

charge depends on complexity of the repair, cant compare HEX replace with pressure switch, but I doubt you will get any numbers here.

£50 an hour. If they don't like it don't work for them, find better customers. You need to make ends meet not run a charity for a greedy estate agent. In fact tell him boiler work will be charged at 3% of the property's value see how they like it!

Hi Allaspectsplumb, and welcome to the forums.

I am not sure that you will get too many sensible answers in the open, public, sections of the forum.

You may have more luck in the private sections - details of access by reading posts 6 and 7 on this thread.

Charge what you think is a fair rate for your time.
Its not your problem parts are expensive.

Welcome Allaspectplumb, got to be charging a decent rate or it's not worth your time doing them.
I usually work on a minimum call time of 2 hours, even if it a 20 min job you usually still have to pick up parts, travel to merchants and the job, fuel parking tickets (if required).
I charge £25ph or £40 ph out of hours, I'm cheap i think(that's what all the boys tell me 😉 ) but I'm still business building

Boiler Repairs Costings.

Charge a fee that suits you, plus parts, plus profit etc.

Then as follows :-

No cup of tea +£10
Sits on shoulder whilst working +£10*
Tells you it's not rocket science +£20
Tells you parts cheaper on internet +£30 and ask if computer is qualified and smart enough to fit part.
Allen key and spanner found in bottom of boiler (they have had a play) +£40

*if sat on shoulder and the jcb starter buttons nearly have your eye out then feel free to discount.

how much discount do you give if she suddenly gets too hot after you fix the boiler 🙂

Don't feel bad asking for money if it's an honest job it's worth an honest price. £20 is reserved for the vulnerable old girl that just needed the overheat reset system charged and rads bled if she made a cuppa then it was on the house.

I'd say nearly everyone s/e'd has had the how much do i charge thing and what Simon said is quite true.

At one time i would go to a job with an idea of how much it was going to be.
Hit an awkward bit or take the skin off your knuckles and the price went up.
PITA to work for the price went up.
It is raining when you go to the van, the price went up.
Tthe wife phones and is in a mood, the price went up.
Cup of tea and some nice biscuits, it dropped a bit.
Nice people, dropped a bit
Feel sorry for them, dropped a bit
Until it finaly comes to asking for the money.
How much is that son?
Eh just give me £200 (you just dropped it another £20 there)
Is that all?
Aye, plus vat.

I learned as most of us do. Now i couldn't care less. The price is the price like it or lump it.
Except really old pensioners........i wish they would stop phoning me

Alba, if a customer makes you a nice big hot cup of tea which takes you 10 minutes to drink; it actually cost the customer around £8.33 for the privilege of make you that cuppa.:smiley2:
