We’re renovating our new home which is near a river. While it hasn't flooded for 50 years, we are putting in place flood resilience features while we have the chance (a sump, french drain, repointing subfloor joints etc).
One thing that is proving tricky to solve, however, is the sleeve in the subfloor that our gas pipe comes through. Its about 100-150 mm wide and a plastic gas pipe (30-40mm?) enters the property through it.
To prevent water ingress into our subfloor in the event of a flood we want to seal the gap between the sleeve and the gas pipe itself.
I’m looking for options and the only two I can see are:
1. Filling the void with fire rated expansion foam.
2. Squeezing backer rods into the voids and fill in and around with silicone.
Are either of these options acceptable from a gas safety perspective, and/or does anyone have any tips or suggestions?
