hurdy

hi guys its hurdy:beatnik2: well i thought i would talk to you guys, about. new guarage roof,at the moment it is a flat roof with a bad leak,so i am contemplating converting to a pitched roof,i thought, this was an easy job,so off itrot to local roofing merchant and explain that the guarage is19ft long x 11ft wide, and i want to raise it by 5ft,this is when thing s get tricky i says give me an estimate for the amount of tiles ill need,? he says whats the pitch, the only pitch i know is football pitch.haha, any ways i say what has the pitch got to do with estimate,he says he has to know,i says 5ft to nothing ,hows that,he says it does not work like that, thus i walked away even more baffled,he shouts come back when you have the pitch, can roofing realy be that difficult,im a pritty handy guy,and will have a go at anything.as long as rain water does not penatrait i think there should not be a problem, would much appreciate your take on this, your friend hurdy.:38:

hi hurdy get some paper and work it out, it's not difficult. by pitch the chap meant angle, so you need your measurements which in this case are 11ft and 5ft. forget about the length for the moment. so draw a triangle scaled down of course, then get a protractor to get the angle and then you have the pitch.

I make the pitch length as 12.08 ft.

So approx 230 sq ft

I think the merchant would have used a calc to get the area.

Pythagoras is your friend
