Hi all,

I have a customer with the above boiler, I believe it's approx 30 years old. They've asked if I can service it for them, but I'm a little worried as I don't think any parts are made for it anymore. The customer knows this as they have been told by BG in the past.

Eventually they are having a complete new unvented system and the boiler will be replaced then. So shall I just explain to them to leave the boiler as it is (as I believe it's not been serviced for years according to them, but they've had no problems with it)?

I've changed all their radiators earlier in the year, and fitted a Magnaclean, so that should give the boiler slightly more protection.

Sorry to waffle!!

This is such a simple boiler, other than a case seal (In stock at parts center)
you are unlucky if you will need any other parts.

I tend to think that BG do not always look in the correct places for spare parts.

I would give it a service, Few more pounds in the bank:smiley2:

OK, thanks for the reply David. I'll pop into parts centre tomorrow and get the case seal ordered.

..........and a thermocouple, worth replacing for sake of a couple of quid
You can still get gas valve, boiler thermostat,as said BG do tend to use the parts obsolete card quite often, having said that, this boiler is expensive to run now and is coming to the end of its life

imho

All done, all went fine. It wasn't even that dirty internally, gave the heat exchanger a good brushing and replaced the case seal with new.

Cheers guys 🙂

I have Ideal Standard WRS, for almost 40 years. Still going strong, have it checked each year without any problems so far.... I'm looking to update my kitchen and therefore need to consider the layout and access to the boiler. Sadly I will have to say goodbye to this dear little darling if I want a new kitchen.
A good old boiler, if its not broken dont fix it!

Lovely old boiler! Pig to get off the wall tho, they weigh the same as a family hatchback!
