Had customer from hell today.

insurance job, no proof that boiler has been serviced so not covered.

already wasted time investigating before I found this out. she was crying, saying husband just died, she has heart problems. Can't afford to use the electric fire. Grrrrr.

anyway, ideal he30

hw runs fine, ch will fire up, flow pipe starts to get hot but shuts off after approximately 20 seconds. What would you be checking? All trv's open, does sound like air in the system but no air valves in loft visible, all rads bled.

Condense trap was blocked, cleared that, pipe was clear.

pump sounds a bit dodgy, she said that a few weeks ago the ch would come on but not get as hot as usual. I'm thinking pump.

possibly blocked heat exchanger?

the 'panel' on the front of the heat exchanger - rectangular with 3 screws, undone that and took it off. All clear inside, bone dry.

also during operation on ch pressure would go up, then the boiler would shut off as though overheated.

interested to know in case I go back.

Could it it be pcb?

Sounds like circulation mate, all the electronics are proven. Fan gas valve etc, has she topped the pressure up and turned of a boiler isolater by mistake? Or a filter valve perhaps.
camt be heat exchanger if hw is ok. Or diverter.

Checked isolators all open.

Magna clean in loft, valves open and bled.

Doesn't that run for the hot water?

Yes that's the annoying thing, I can stop it with a screwdriver but not sure if that's because I was trying to stop it or if it's weak. Was thinking perhaps it's powerful enough for hw but not ch.

Had a similar issue on a Worcester combi at my last firm and I never got to go back but I remember the boss saying it was the pub. I don't see how though.
