Hi,

We have Economy 7 Heating in the flat and recently the hot water has started to turn cold. I've had a look at the heater and removed the bottom cap and hit the reset button (with the electric off :biggrin5🙂 and this starts to reheat the water for a few days, but then the same thing happens over and over again, I reset, water heats up then stops after a few days). My guess would be that this is a timer issue (Horstmann Quartz) if the tank is able to heat the water so maybe the timer is not working? and not an element issue? But I have no idea about this stuff 🙂

Any ideas what the issue could be? If you need more info please just ask.

What is the make / model of the cylinder ?
The overheat thermostat which is the thing you are re-setting is design to operate at 80-85 deg C (the normal control stat is set to 60-65) it should should not just be re-set !! there is a reason the temp got that high which should be investigated.

Thanks guys, I'm not sure of the make/model of the Cylinder so will check when I get home tonight and post the details. Thanks for taking the time to reply, really appreciate it.

You could try replacing the rod thermostat for a new one, if you feel confident & safe in doing this, as they are cheap enough.
If it trips again, it is likely to be scale build-up within the cylinder & would then recommend you call out an engineer to drain & inspect.
