Hi,

i got called out to no hot water job, when i arrived i found it was an electric immersion. The live wire after the high limit stat had completely disintegrated. Seeing as the tank was about 20 years old and had been leaking i advised replacing both the immersion and the tank. i fitted a new 750/450 gledhill cylinder and new 27" immersion heater. Now the o/h keeps tripping on the immersion heater about once a day. Seeing as both the tank and immersion are brand new i am a bit stumped. Any ideas??

cheers

They are a PITA. If the immersion is on almost constantly they will trip. Try setting it a bit lower.

I agree they are a PITA. The overheat stat should designed so that it can be fitted lower down the tank in my opinion.

PITA??? I first left the immersion on 55 degrees and got a call 2 hours later saying the water was only tepid. Then before i had a chance to get back there it had tripped out.

PITA = pain in the arse

i'd change stat if you go back again, i've had a few that were to sensitive and required replacing from plumb center. it was definitely the stat tripping out, not the fuse board?

yes def the stat.when tripped i still had 240v to the immersion on the inlet.

I agree with sam. Some stats seem more sensitive than others. They are a bad design for top entries and will nuisance trip quite a lot. This will cause you to look like an idiot as the last one never did that and even 1 trip a year is your fault.
