PLUMBING,
I have just finished quite a large job, re-vamp 3 bathrooms and put in new basin etc, the bath was a complete nightmare as is everything with this blasted plumbing lark! There never was a bath in the room so it was a saga from day one. This is a different story though.
The woman I am working for is a professional high end renovator, started off very small and now pays cash for houses. Drives a Jag and obviously has money but she is not what you'd imagine. Anyway, having a chat today about trades etc. Her view is sparks, don't care what mess they leave and will quote rcd fuses etc although qualified they don't worry too much about looks, they say 'we're sparks not decorators'.
Painter and decorators generally clear up after themselves but at the end of the day its putting paper and paint on walls.
Plasterers, what a mess!
Tilers, well its just putting tiles up,
Unprompted, plumbers have to have a whole range of skills and knowledge, no one is interested in the slightest how the water gets from a to b or how you have to get the water out of b along the drain to c. Plumbers not only have to have knowledge about flow, pipe sizing, pumps, drainage etc it has to look good, if it doesn't it shows. She went on to say (again unprompted) 'plumbers are the unsung heroes in my job (property developement), I've had them get me out of trouble on electrics and all sorts of problems'
I asked why she didn't use bathroom fitters the answer was a simple 'cost' I can get a plumber in for his day rate and he'll do the bath, I get a tiler in who charges less than a plumber, and they should, and its quicker and cheaper'
The reason I've posted this is purely that it is quite nice to be appreciated, quite often in plumbing we (I) don't feel appreciated.
