JIB CSCS Card help.

View the thread, titled "JIB CSCS Card help." which is posted in UK Plumbers Forums on UK Plumbers Forums.

HI,

I'm just about to apply for a JIB CSCS card but wasn't sure whether to go for a "Plumber" or "Heating Fitter" card. I mainly work in domestic heating and gas but was going to try to get some work subbing on-site (preferably heating and gas).

Does it make a difference either way as it's only a health and safety thing...or would an employer look at what card you have?

It's all down to your qualifications. You'll need to send copies of any C&G certs or NVQ's and they should be able to advise on what card you can get.

I have spoken to them and as I have a NVQ 2 Diploma in Plumbing & Heating I've been told I can have to option of plumbing or heating Would it make any difference which one I choose?

go for heating engineer as most employers will believe that an heating engineer will be able to do most plumbing jobs but may not think
the same the other around.

If you are a Gassafe Regd bod you do not need CSCS as Gassafe qualifies you as HSE trained......

This is not true. Most companies that ask for Gas safe also ask for CSCS. CSCS is general site safety, none of this is covered by ACS

go for the plumbing one, aspire for greatness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
£55 30 odd health & safety questions easy peasy

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or serous:crazy: .... never seen plumbing and greatness in the same sentence.

as i've done my NVQ within 2years I don't have to take to H&S exams..the only difficulty i'm having is choosing the plumbing or heating card

haha i am 100% serious, i am a time served plumber and proud of it, i cant be bothered with all this heating engineer business, i am a plumber and proud of it, and wouldn't demean myself by calling myself anything else, i hate when someone says "only a plumber"

Thats cos you're only a plumber!!! lololol!! I myself am a Technical Pipeologist (Thats a plumber with a pair of 36" stilsons in the garage!)

My cscs forms are going in the post tomorrow once i have my signature from my troop commander. I have been speaking to a woman at jib who said although i am not in the trade (yet) i can apply for a cscs under general operative. I did my H+S test a month ago now but she only confirmed certain info for me yesterday. Still in the army but they are able to make an exception for me as i got my quals through work and i will be looking for work soon.

It won't really benefit me much just yet but wont hurt to add something else to my quals and gives me something else to mention when writing to potential employers.
