Hi all,

Had a jury summons today.

From what I gather looking at the expenses info I am going to massively lose out money wise?????

Am I missing something?

i just wondered if any of you had experience of this as I'm worrying a bit.

Cheers

matt

The expenses are rubbish.

There are two ways you can look at it.

1) Try to get a deferrment by pleading that you are a self employed tradesman in the middle of a contract and it would bankrupt you to take two weeks off
2) Thank god that you live in a country which has a reasonably decent justice system and accept that 2 weeks once or twice in your life isn't going to kill you.

Can I recommend 1) rapidly followed by 2)?

Ha ha I kind of don't object to doing it but I will be losing well over £150 a day surely this can't be right???

Do you mean "right" in the sense of "factually accurate" or right in the sense of "morally defensible" ?

Just go and perhaps smash a window of a shop - get a caution and then you will be let off as your now a con

Well a bit of both really Ray. If I were employed would my employer have any obligation to make up the difference I'm just a bit confused

Cheers Phill I'll class felony as a plan B

No legal obligation to, although many do.

Its one of the burdens of citizenship, along with paying taxes and being conscripted in times of war.

No no I agree Ray, I just genuinely think a fortnight to three week case could seriously harm my business irreparably. I haven't had a holiday in three years for the same reason

Have a word with wife / girlfriend, explain the problem and ask if she will allow you to give her 3 slaps around the face for a good cause then take the caution! lol

You can defer Matt, but not get out of it entirely.

But on the wider point, you can't work 7/52 indefinitely! I'm eight years into a no-holiday run, and I reckon I only have another 5 or 6 years left before it starts taking it toll. 🙂

Agreed mate and I've promised myself something good in the new year.

Get the missus to grow some stubble and put on a deep voice Matt, then she can enjoy the fun for you :willy_nilly:

Can't these things go on for weeks or months?! The fines a grand, which way would cost you more??

If only you could conscientously object to paying taxes.

There are lots of ways of making that argument. The Yanks did it back in 1776, and had to set up a whole new country as penance. I bet they're sorry now! 🙂

dress up in nazi uniform, they will drop you 😉

why dont the tax man reimburse for loss of income!!
and all those on the dole with nothing better to do!

Just turn up 1st day, after the initial "court rise" announcement, just SCREAM " WHERE'S JUDGE RINDER"....THEY SAID I'D BE ON TV"
