Have a keston system boiler lined up for a service ,have not seen it as yet but have been told its approx 7 ish years old and has not been serviced for approx three years so am expecting it to have a couple issues . Is their anything on these boilers that is commonly problematic and certain things i need to check on these ? Any feed back is appreciated as usual as this will be first keston serviced as never come across one before

There are a few issues with some but I think the biggest was the failure of the flue outlet pipe. There's been a couple of redesigns by Keston so definatley inspect it. Do you know the model?

You'll need a new burner gasket if your removing the burner and often th spark electrodes are distorted so I'd pick up a new set too. Best bet find the model out and download the service instructions then you can get familiar with it before you get there

I dont know the model all i been told is that its a system boiler 7 years old , its all a bit odd to be honest as the info i have been given is that someone condemned it yet from my understanding no paperwork was left .My number was passed to them for what sounds like they want me to go give it a service and to see if its actually dangerous or if the other engineer has just put the frightners on them to gain a boiler change out of it .Speaking to them over the phone i got the impression of no confidence from the other gsr and last service was approx 3 years ago .

No paperwork left don't you love it when that happens! Iv found in the past guys tend to condem boilers just because they aren't familiar with them and are scared to touch the so could be nothing wrong with it and the other guy just wanted a get out! Then again on the c40/c55 models the rubber pipe that connects onto the flue tended to split so could be that!

Keston boilers tend to be fitted with the flue pipes in voids possible reson for being condemned, should have left paper work thou, met an installer in PTS he had just been to a block of flats think he said 53 kestons fitted, flues with no acess and also going throu other peoples flats as well he gave me the imprestion he was going to walk away from it and let it be somone elses night mere

pump / flexi flue / auto air vent / breaking down of heat exchanger (burning to insulation ) / leaks from side of heat exch - check everywhere they are terrible boilers

Also be wary if it appears the burner joint has been blowing for a while (after 7 years quite likely), it tends to distort the hex, and you wont get a good seal again.

I'm always a bit suspicious when po=eople don't bother having a boiler looked at for a long time then decide to, more than just a service I suspect.

dont forget the air filter its like a car air filter rubbish boiler

Turned out to be a C40 and what a nail of a boiler , aav was leaking , kink in the condense pipe ,rubber flue look like it was about to split so renewed, put new seal on burner , just as well condemed it wont be looking forward to working on one of these again but could see why it was fitted due to ease of flue installation but what a bag of nails.

Yeah they aren't the best to be sure! Tend to be ok but only ok if they are reguarly serviced and that's a proper service like you've done not a BG service! If neglected they don't thank you at all but I guess that's the customers fault! The problem with the rubber flue pipe is a major design flaw though let's hope the new ones stand up better!

i cant work out why the 2 inch plastic flue option hasnt been taken up by any other manufacturers surely it cant be so they can sell us there over priced tat

There's a few that do similar Vokera I know do but yeah I can't understand why a lot more haven't adopted it
