Leaking h/water stop tap under kitchen sink

Help! I need to replace a leaking h/water stop tap under a kitchen sink and replace with new section of pipe + service valve. Is there any way that I can isolate this section of pipe 'upstream (ie between immersion heater and problem) without having to drain c/heating? If so, where exactly would I shut supply at the immersion heater?

check the tap on your sink more than likely tap connector washer leaking down onto service tap

Assuming it's the hot water supply you want to isolate, if there's no obvious isolation valve or gate valve, then you can turn off the feed from the cold water storage system to the hot water cylinder (often around the back and near the bottom) and after running hot tap for around 30 seconds to a minute you'll find this stops the hot water flow.

Hardly ever a need to drain central heating to work on hot water system as they are two separate circuits.

And if the cold feed to the cylinder is seized go up into loft and isolate large tank either by turning service valve off or tying float valve up.

Find out where it is leaking from first, might be as simple as tightening a nut or repacking the gland...

Thanks all! I guess that dontknowitall's reply is closest to the mark of my problem ... presumably the feed valve between c/water stoarage and immersion is at the immersion end? You'll have to excuse my ignorance, but I'm a 'handyman' with very basic plumbing knowledge who occasioanally gets asked to sort problems just a wee bit beyond my comfort zone.

Immersion...you mean hot water cylinder
Gate valve on pipe down from attic feeding bottom of cylinder(cold feed)

i would also go to a plumbers shop and buy a set of tank bungs. Plug the feeds in header tank because although a gate valve will stem the flow of water it will not completely isolate the pipe.
