No you don't.

However you will probably need to fit a mini expansion vessel and of course the discharge pipe work.

A lot of people skip the mini expansion vessel.

The MI will tell you the distances you require to veto the expansion vessel.

Basically if there isn't a 2m run to the first outlet then I would suggest you fit one.

Yep - most of them use the incoming cold for expansion, however as Dannypipe says, it does depend on distances (which I can't remember of the top of my head). The manufacturers instructions will give the info.

i tried putting in a 3kW Ariston 10L as per MI (ie expand back into existing pipework) but it made all sorts of racket when hot. So exapansion vessel a must i reckon, you'll prob only end up going back to fit one.

Fitted loads and I think many of the issues come down to the quality of the appliance.

We could be on a different page here Howsie. Under-sink and over-sink.

I assumed the original post is regarding an under sink heater.

IF so, then quality of appliance is not the main factor. (In my humble opinion)

What it comes down to is: the room for expansion in the pipework. If it isn't there, you will get wasted water via the tundish.

Indeed. 2.8m isn't a lot of pipe IMHO. Each to their own though.

Yeah but it's 2.8m between the cold inlet and the first cold draw off point. Not the mains as a whole.

For instance, I fit a fair few of these in office blocks. It will be a run to a new kitchen which will have just a sink and a tap.

For the sake of a bit of extra work, I tend to fit the expansion vessel and be done with it.

I don't wire mine. I get the sparks to do that.

If you are changing a like for like unit, I think you would be ok to fit it yourself without qualifications.

I don't know this for a fact though.
