Hi everyone

My 20 yr old son is about to complete his C&G level 2 in May and requires an apprenticeship to go on to Level 3 and eventually Gas Safe.

Is there anyone on this forum from Halifax, or nearby areas that are looking for an apprentice?

If not, he could do the odd few hours or weekend as voluntary to build up on his skills and gain more confidence.

Long shot but worth a query.

Thanks

To be fair it's not a good start that he hasn't come on here and asked for himself.

Also voluntary work doesn't work like that, if he's on site with somebody he'll need insurance, so it would cost somebody in additional insurance and time being slowed down.

Best bet is to get himself down to the merchants for 7.30 and ask the people coming in.

Have you considered contacting someone like Yorkshire Housing?
Hi,

Son did apply to a local government company that were looking for apprentices but they did not get back to him and eveb after chasing up, they informed applications are closed now and if no reply then unsuccessful.

There was a time when qualifications meant something but now its all about experience, and many people find themselves in lower paid jobs even with high degrees, as is the case where i work.

Maybe i can try a few local plumbing firms and see.

In my opinion, it would be much better if your son did this himself. To be honest, having mum or dad making approaches on behalf of their child would be a red flag for me. (Is their child is actually ready for a job where they are going to have to take responsibility and act on their own initiative?)

For entry-level positions, I think it is not so much about having direct experience as such. Employers look for evidence of motivation and a genuine interest in what the job has to offer. Having had a hobby that involves making or repairing something is a good indicator.
