I have just seen a screwfix special on a dewalt Li drill (DC988) for 127 ex vat whic includes a 2Ah Li battery and charger as well as the drill.

seeing as dewalt LI batteries (18V) fir the older dewalt tools as well this seems like a good way to get a LI battery and charger, as well as a spare drill. Especially since a dewalt Li battery and charger alone is around 150 ex vat.

My question is do I do the no brainer and buy this as the first step to go Li and stick with dewalt OR do I ignor this and go Li with say Makita but pay a lot more and end up with a dewalt drill that is forever NiMh?

what you think?

Stick with your Dewalt. Indeed it is a great way to get yourself 2 cheap Lithium batteries and a great drill. I use Dewalt 18v Lithium and my brother uses Makita 18v Lithium. He tells me after using both that the Dewalt is torquier than his Makita. Interestingly I have just upgraded my DC727 to a DC213 which is SDS plus and contrary to what most people will tell you, my 18v Lithium batteries fit straight into the DC213 body. I bought a Jacobs keyless chuck with SDS adapter and now I have a drill that covers Drilling, hammer drill and Rotary stop hammer for chiselling without having to replace all my old drill bits to SDS or buy new batteries!!!
