So i have a cust that 18 months ago had an oil boiler installed by a.n.other. It was to be connected to the existing stove. The old system was basic but effective. Stove with 2 28mm pipes to cylinder with heat leak in bathroom and 2 22mm for the rads. Stat on cylinder return to kick in pump. Worked a treat. Plenty of hot water and heat in the rads.

Boiler installed and 2 22mm from boiler through loft and into airing cupboard. 22mm Flow has pump on and then splits into two motorized valves. One to cylinder and one back under floor to heating. New twin coil cylinder was fitted.

Now when the stove is lit it heats the water until stat on return kicks in pump up in the airing cupboard. Also opens two port. The pump only runs for a few minutes before it depletes the heat in the stove and also pulls out the heat from the cylinder.

They basically have little hot water and little heating from the stove anymore. Also no control between stove and boiler backing up the shortfall from the stove. Boiler has totally seperate controls. But run the boiler only and the stove gets hot. Add in the earth thats been used in the programmable room stat, no earth bond on oil line and cust never received building notification. The work looks good on the surface but a dogsbreakfast when you start digging.

Ive asked for a copy of the original estimate to see if it gives some indication before i start ripping the house to bits.

Any suggestions?

What's the pipe stat temp set to
Also sounds like it's back feeding to stove is there a non return next to pump or a injector tee fitted

They would have been better spending some money on a neutraliser and saved on not buying a twin coil cylinder .
Not fitted one for years but they did work.

old cyl would probably have been direct and heated ok, now its inderect, less heat tx etc etc, happens a lot on changing old style cyl to new coil variants

I just got dropped off the drawings for a new build today Alex so was having a quick look at it earlier. Might be suitable but i've got my holiday head on so i'll think about it later.

Actually tonight Jon i'm on the Pussers. Fancied a wee change and at 54% i'm pacing myself

used to make that in Tortola, we all got a bottle everytime a ship stopped off. I just got incredably drunk on day one, sampling rum punches at a bar and found myself on duty for 6 days, by which time the hangover had eased off to a normal thudding and flashing lights effect as found from to much beer. Can't even sniff the stuff now without retching 🙁
