Loose taps in unreachable position.

Hi.
I hope this doesnt turn into a nightmare. The tap on our bath is coming loose. The problem is their position. It's located on the length of the bath against the wall. Obviously not reachable from the front as the bath is in the way. To remove the bath I would have to also remove the vanity sink unit as the bathroom is quite tiny.
My plan is to use clear sealant around the base of the tap for two reasons, it will stick the tap down and hopefully prevent the nut from coming loose any more as there is not as much movement in the unit, and seal the area as a by product.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

If the tap is turning (okay, I'll rephrase that ...) if the body of the tap is turning there's a good chance that the nut on the pipe is loose and is leaking too. (There's one nut that tightens it to the bath and a second nut that holds the tap on to the pipework.

The first you'll know of this will be in a few weeks/months when water's coming through the ceiling and there might be much more damage and it might be quite costly to correct.

Only way really is to remove bath, sort out taps, then replace bath again. Sounds like a nightmare.

If you undo it, you might find it easier to put in flexible tap connectors if they're not being used already.

Thanks dontknowitall.
To clarify, there are 2 inputs into a monbloc tap so the unit is just rocking forward and back a bit. It cant twist but I know what your saying. I think after you mentioned it that its just the tap securing nut that is coming loose. No signs of leaking water at all.
Removing the bath would probably entale breaking the shelf at the end of the bath made with tiles to fill the void. Its just a ball ache all together. If it is just the securing nut, I think its a lot of hassle to just nip em up. I know through experience that silicone is a very affective adhesive!
Cheers.

one socket, extension bar and ratchet, one mirror, one torch. and a hole saw.
£60 and i will do it for you?.

easier than pulling the bath.

Silicone wont do it, its either play contortionist with box spanners or take it out. Absolute mare but more thought needs to be given on installation for maintenance and servicing. I always install so I can get at it as I presume it will be me who has to do it.

Let us know how you get on 🙂

Provided its not on an outside wall in the past I have knocked a whole throughe the wall from the next room in the past as it usually is cheaper to reapair than breaking out the bath

Stevetheplumber,
Funny stuff, he should have given me one. Then again, the twit should have used some threadlock or something.
I'm near Worksop, Notts. I think I will get the panel off and do some swearing at some point.
Cheers guys.

like i said,
take me 10 mins, unfortunatly your 40mins up the a614 to get to you.

bronzino is nearer i believe if you need him.

my brother has decided he wants to fit a double ended bath with taps on the wall side, i have already told him if he has a leak he had better not phone me!! 🙂

A case for Jaw Droppers?

customers who insist on taps at the back of bath get a letter warning them of the dangers of being an idiot
When this happens I always stick them and the nuts on with Araldite instead of silicone!

Even a rocking tap needs to be seen to as everytime you use it you will no doubtidly 'rock it' and eventually loosen the connections to the tap

Yes try access from the other side of the wall or use RedSaw's method but warn the other householders of the possible bad language

I always try and talk the customer out of the idea, give em a few horror stories about how much it'll cost to remove tiles, bath etc and 9 times out of 10 they do listen. To be honest, if brass backnuts are used, the tap should never come loose and some boss white on the fibre washer should see to that end

of course they do!!!!
when you get a call for new taps to put on and the beggers back to the wall and some idiots glued the nuts in.lol.

That is what we had in our last bathroom - a panel in the neighbouring bedroom, to get access to the taps - was very easy - we won't be needing a copy of that "you are a dummy" letter - thanks!
