Low Hot Water pressure at the taps

Dear All

A regular customer of mine rang up today and he informed me he had a problem with low water pressure out of his hot taps.

The Hot water is fed through an unvented cylinder something allthough being recently qaulified on have I have little practical experience of. Could any one give me a few pointers of what the problem/solution could be.

I was last at the property 3 months ago and the water pressure was fine. Any help and advice gratefully accepted

Why is it that us beginners get problems like this and not installing new bathrooms, changing radiators, etc?

Could be all sorts of things. Has the problem started just recently or just more noticeable more recently.

One thing could be the incoming mains isn't filling the CWSC quickly enough and it's emptying to fill the hot water cylinder which then starves of fresh water. This could be a fault with the ball valve on the CWSC. If the problem is an old one, then are the pipes big enough? Is there a blockage?

Has something got into the hot water cylinder and is now partially blocking the hot supply outlet? Is it affecting all the hot taps or just upstairs or just the bath or kitchen?

Is it something simple like a washer?

I'm sure they'll be other suggestions - hope you find it quite quickly.

Dont want to sound cheeky dontknowitall but this system doesnt have a CWSC as its unvented. When i was last at the property the hot was flowing as fast as the cold. Going there in the next few days so will ask a few pertinant questions.

filter or prv at a guess but check the mains is fully open no valves half shut

I have same system in my property, I'm no expert but maybe a blocked filter in pressure reducing valve restricting the flow? or possibly the main gate valve/isolation from the cylinder is only partially open/blocked or faulty?

If the cold taps are ok then I would guess the problem would be in the combination valve at the cylinder.

poor hot water out = poor cold water in, so you need to check the basics, is the cold tap at kitchen working properly, is there a cold balanced supply after the PRV, If so is are the other cold taps working, is the filter blocked

i think kirkgas is on the right line you need to check the prv and filter

Could it be that the air bubble has depleted and the system needs recommisioning ??

Is the filter the line strainer ? (sorry for sounding stupid but just learning about Unvented at college)
And is it right that the filter could be combined in another valve, Composite valve/Combination valve
containing PRV,line strainer, expansion valve and check valve.

yes thats right vaughan you can get combined valves doing several things. sometimes you have a separate filter just after the stopcock and before the take off for the balanced cold water.

Could be unballanced cold water pressure going into the cylinder? dont ask me anymore as your problem was exlained to me to help me ubderstand a different issue today
