When installing low loss headers with multiple boilers I've connected two diferent ways.

1. Boilers linked into one common flow and return, with check valves fitted on the boiler . Most manufacturer kits are like this too.
2. Header with multiple flow and return connections ( depending on how many boilers) and dedicated flow and returns from boilers to header.

are there any pros and cons that I can't see? My thoughts are, better off without the check valves.
 
Option 1 I fit but size commons to cope with total load etc and fit swing valves

Option 2 down side is when you have a few boilers the last flow connection could be 4" down from the top etc

Swings and roundabouts.

I always use option 1 myself. I think it looks neater.
Less pipes. I know they increase in size as you go but I think it looks better than more pipe runs.

I suppose it depends on how many boilers too.

Not been thru this yet in my head.

What about shunt pumps.
Are they built in the boilers in this question or are you fitting externals ?

All this depends on, number of boilers and what size, pipe size, flow rates etc as you know already !

Or are you just asking a general question.
You know the type that springs into your head at 3A.M.
And stops you going back to sleep.
