Morning, after some advice please. I have a MAIN combi ECO 30 , its been in for nearly 9 years. historically its randomly fired up as though you are calling for hot water – but when no tap is actuated. This would happen a few times a week and last less than a minute.

Since last week I have now pretty much lost hot water. It wont get up to temp when opening the hot water tap. What does happen in the central heating heats up (when no central heating is requested). The boiler also continues to run on once the tap is shut off. So the burner light is lit and the hot water light is lit. so I have to manually throw the switch on the face plate to shut the boiler down to get it to stop. When switched back on it wont fire up of its own accord. But once you operate a hot tap it will fire up again. Luke warm water. Centeral heating warms up.

I had a plumber in at the weekend. He said the diverter valve was working. He replaced the motor on it at a cost of 100 pounds. And said the next thing to try would be the pcb if the motor didnt fix the issue.
After a day away from home, I returned yesterday only to find the same issue present. bath time for my little one was problematic 🙂
After some advice on potential route courses for the failure? Also what would people recommend? Keep throwing money at a 9 year old boiler, or just bite the bullet and have a new one fitted?
thank you.

In my opinion it might be advisable to consider a new boiler but make sure the whole system is flushed and you have a magnetic and non magnetic filter fitted. Use an approved fitter for the boiler you choose and expect a decent period of cover...7 years up to 10. Combis when they get old can throw up all sorts of problems due to their complexity and host a number of electro-mechanical units which are problematic

Not economic to trow money at it. Very quickly you have spent a few hundred quid on parts and labour. Pcb alone not cheap. Need to know what's wrong, pinpoint the fault. Maybe plumber could speak with main for some guidance on pinning it down.

Baxi do a fixed price repair around 300 I believe and will fix any fault even if it’s multiple

Or find someone who specialises in baxi
