Hi

I went to quote for a repair today on a main Medway super water heater.

There was a bit of confusion between the office and the customer so when I turned up she was expecting a repair but the office had given her a price for a service. Needless to say there was a difference between the price of a repair and a service.

seeing as I was there I thought I'd have a little look. I told her as she wasn't paying I wouldn't be taking the case off and investigating too far but would just see what it's doing.

the pilot will light ok and the burner comes on straight away - without any hot taps being opened. If I run a tap water comes out hot ok. All of a sudden the burner and pilot both go out.

another thing when I was running the basin hot tap all of a sudden the water stopped coming out and I was just getting a lot of steam. And a bit of brown water.

A blockage/restriction of some kind but any common places to check?

left it at risk.

I'm sure the confusion arose when the customer decided to ring up & request a service, knowing full well it's broken down!!

Flame could be dropping out due to dirt in the oxy pilot, blocked our partially blocked flue. A service as quoted would have sorted that.

Would that cause the burner to ignite straight away with no demand for hw?

Working for a company I can't assume a service will sort it. What if it doesn't? The customer is not going to pay the fee and I have to report back and explain why I didn't charge for a repair first.

i say flow sensor/waterblock or circuit pcb as in my example, both about £300 parts.
was only 2-3 years old sometimes worked sometimes didnt, took the landlord 15months to replace.lol
