Mains Combi 30e

Hi guys, I've got two call outs today from friends of mine. Week off work luckily so I can fit them in. 🙂

The first is a Mains combi 30e: When I got there the pressure was on 3 and half mbar. No DHW, just gets slightly warm then cold again. The diverter valve pin seems to be moving in and out fine, yet I noticed water dripping slowly out of the bottom. Rang up the techhelp line, they're pointing at the plate heat ex. Which is right at the back.
Now is their an simpler method to replacing it, rather than my approach which would be take everything off. I checked the magclean, it did have abit of muck on it, gave it a clean and popped it back on.

The 2nd job, which I haven't been to yet is a 2 year old boiler from B&Q (BIASI if im correct) still under warranty. There is a lot of water coming out of the pressure relief valve. I understand it could be a number of thinks, but are there any common problems which occur with these boilers?

do you mean a main boiler .did a potterton performa diverter last wk as it was leaking from that area very hard to trace - remove the water section of the diverter to check the rear assy is moving .

I would agree with plate heatex and would take boiler off the wall to do it. biasi sounds like filling link possibly left open or expansion vessel broken or needing recharging with air.

Hi on the biasi the filling loop was left open.
Now the main boiler, this seems like it's going to be a bit of a difficult job. Have any of you guys replaced plate heatex on a main? If I was to take the whole thing off, would it easily enough go back on? Bit nervous about this one tbh with you all. Hmmm

is this a main boiler same as the baxi 105 e ? if so the plate is easy to get out without removing anything

Agreed, the plate lifts up and out with a bit of fidgeting.

Ye you should be able to get the plate hex out without removing anything else. Pretty easy job to be fair. But it is a common fault with those models that the plate to plates block up! Easy way to see if watch the temperature LED's on the front of the boiler, if they fly up quickly then it's most likely the plate to plate.

I don't think the 30e has the LEDs mate.

easy as long as you don't lose the gaskets if I remember correctly.

gaskets are rip off from memory about £18 for them

Never had to replace gaskets on these. Easy way to tell if plate is to remove ntc and connect where it can't sense heat. Run tap and if boiler gets noisey and complains it's the plate. Only run the boiler for very short period!

the main 30 e or HE is baxi 105e or HE,the gaskets are around 4 quid each,but rarely need replacing the plate hex is simple to remove i can take one out and stick a new one back in in 20 minutes

yes but that extra minute you saved means you forgot to put the washers back in and spend the next hour looking in the boiler for them
