I've going to visit a customer tomorrow who's mains water supply has stopped any ideas?
I do hope that he has paid his bill.

Why is everyone assuming its an outside stopcock, internal stopcock or meter.....never think it could simply be the tap itself? Information is very vague, best looking at it before ringing anyone to see if water has been knocked off

Maybe I'm missing something here - if the man has no mains water, what can a plumber do about that, other than ringing the water board on his behalf?

Yes but the information is very vague:

Customer: Hello plumber, I have no mains water
Plumber: OK, i'll call out tomorrow

Whose to say the customer simply doesnt have water at one tap which is mains because the tap itself is jammed? Nothin said anywhere about tanks not filling/if pressurized, no hot water or heating. Simply says no mains water, could be a multitude of things :\
