mixer tap flow problem

I have a brass Victorian style mixer / shower unit on the bath, flow from the cold is fine but poor on the hot.
Turning the hot on fully produces a poor flow rate but I have noticed that if I pull the tap along the axis of the spindle, the flow increases.

This obviously isn't correct, can anyone give advice as to what the problem is

Probably the brass lower section has seized the one with the washer on and the clip holding the top section has moved up the spindle so it no longer keeps the top section fixed hence when you pull it it comes on full or faster strip it all down if you feel competent enough and grease it up with silicone grease not forgetting to turn off the water first
