We have a mono tap on our kitchen sink and it keeps coming loose. How can i make it secure ?

I have tightened up the nut, but it is hard to get some movement. The long brass thread has a slot in the end and i wondered if i could turn this to tightened things up (i am sure this doesnt work like this).

Our sink is ceramic and so the small bracket with its rubber washer just doesnt bite hard enough into the porcelaine from underneath.

i have one of those funny shaped spanners for getting under a sink, but it is too big. so just used pliers as this is the best thing i can get in there.

Could be worth trying a monobloc spanner, can get them fairly cheap, I got mine for a fiver and its worked well for me. If that doesn't work I'm sure some of the more experienced members could help out.

Thats part of your problem, go and buy yourself a set of mono block spanners about £10. That way if they work there way loose again its no drama re-tightening them.....

Seriously, PLIERS......

ok i didnt know about these mono block spanners. i will get some, but i have managed to tighten it up with my other pliers (not small ones) so all nice and tight now.

ta for the tip on the spanners though.

I know a bloke that used a socket set with the monobloc spanner, he struggled to get into the cupboards when he's 6ft something and close to 20 stone.

I've fitted about 100-150 kitchen monoblocs since I started and had my first one that was working itself loose recently. I tightened it then when I went to test it it seemed loose. Thought that was odd but tightened it again, with an extra sqeueeze. Left the job and was phoned up 2 days later to hear it was loose again. It was, admittedly a £30 wonder from foolstation but you'd think no matter how cheap a tap was the fixings would still hold. I still don't actually understand how it was working itself loose either. The threaded bar would sort of unwind itself from the tap body partially - despite being properly tightened with screwdriver first.
