Moving from Gas to Industrial Work

Hi,
Just wonering if anyone has moved from Plumbing/Gas into Industrial work, like pipefitting and labouring on engineering sites. I'm trying to get some contact details ( agencies etc ) and maybe get a start as a Labourer/Fitters mate. I've rang around a lot of agencies like UK Engineering/Rise etc but no one seems to actually deal with the Labourers and mates side of things.
I was hoping that my NVQ 3/ Gas safe registration ( even though it aint relevant on site ) and past engineering experience might go in my favour, I've just got my CCNSG safety passport too.

The problem I'm having is finding who recruits the lower tier of workers. I've spent all this week ringing agencies but they only deal with the fully skilled positions.

Yeah where are you bud? One of my best mates only does industrial. Zinc furnaces and all that. I've worked on a few with him, it's hard and filthy graft, hanging off fittings with 24 inch stillys.

Trade in its own right. I did 921 and 925 training with Trend during the mid 90's. Absolute bugger to wrap your head round.

Its something that interests me greatly. The electrical side of the job is the bit I enjoy the most. But you're right it is it's own trade especially now it's all smart systems linking solar fire air con heating ventilation lighting just everything consuming or supplying energy. It soothes me tracing faults etc only ever done it on that scale once many years ago

Yeah, think you need a PTS cert for railway work. Hopefully, once I've done some work and got some money and contacts, I can look at doing some specialist stuff, rope access, off shore etc . There seems to be a lot of money about in power engineering...if you can get in. My mate laboured a few years ago on a wind farm, 20 quid an hour, digs paid, 12 hour days, he was only pulling wires. Last time I seen him, he was working mexico earning a couple of grand a week helping wire fusegear....

I though BMS was PLC controllers and such. My brother does that for Siemans, he's got a Masters Degree for that stuff...works from his house, brand new merc thrown in...cushy job
