Mysterious dripping noise behind bathroom sink

Hi - A few days ago I noticed a faint dripping noise, seemingly coming from behind the bathroom sink. (As they are so close together it could conceivably be coming from behind the toilet and I realise the sound might echo a bit, but I'm fairly sure it's behind the sink).

I have switched off the water and the dripping noise continues. I can't find any evidence of wet/damp floors, pipes or walls and as I live on the 2nd floor of a flat I wondered if it might be coming from the flat above. Both these thoughts leave me tempted to ignore it, but my instinct tells me I shouldn't.

Is there anything I can do to fix this, or at least isolate the source?

First off could you register as a member (and tick the little box "remember me" to stay logged in) secondly where did you turn the water off, under the sink? Also can you lift the lid to the toilet cistern off and take a look there for the dripping?

Thank you both.

I switched the water off via the mains stopcock but the dripping continued. The toilet cistern isn't visibly dripping (although I do drop a little blue ecozone toilet cleaner thing in there, so the water is a bit murky).

I'd say you need to get a plumber in, to help you with the search.

It could be coming from the soil pipe. if a upstairs flat has an overflowing toilet or cistern
