I've got quite alot of work offers coming up, too much for myself to handle. I need some advice...

I have social housing work on price work starting either tomorrow or as soon as, which will be mon-fri 2 bathrooms 2 kitchens a day temporary with the chance of years of work.

or

Subbing for British Gas with a promise of 3 years work possibly 5, while working for an insurance firm on emergency call and squeezing in my own jobs if possible.

Now both are good offers, both promise of making good money but the BG contract work is a weeks work same with the social housing, and the social housing guys need my transit van to transport materials to and from jobs.

What should I do ? Should I take someone on for the social housing who has their own van ?

I would like to take up all the offers if I'm honest but I can't be in 2 places at once, but if I did take on both offers then its good for my business.

Any help would be much appreciated.

If you could take on somebody so you could do both but I'd say its a bit risky as you know contract work can be here one day and taken away the next. I used to work in social housing and they have all these plans to do things but all of a sudden the money drys up and they cancel everything.

If I where you I would go for the BG work and do the insurance work, atleast you know that BG will always have the work plus they will give you all the gear so you can do the work for them.

Its up to you though mate, I'd go with what makes you the happiest. Thats what I have done, I could earn more money doing installs but I do what makes me happy and I find it works well. At the end of the day if you enjoy your work it makes life a hell of a lot easier.

Good luck what ever you choose, Its good to see someone with lots of work for a change!!

BG work , have done loads of social housing over the years and currently still doing a bit , problem as villa tom says social housing blows hot and cold. Great money for couple months then quiet month .Also depends what paper work you have filled out to do the social housing as it may state somewhere about contracting works out .

Good point - where I used to work they took on loads of social housing work, took on loads of contractors and a week later when the paperwork was handed in they where reminded that in the tiny tiny small print in the contract that the work had to be carried out by direct labour it kncoked us for six and we where rushed off out feet from then on!

cheers for the advice guys, I haven't seen the contract yet I'm in contact with a subby, not the main contractor. I would prefer doing the BG work as its mostly paperwork and its not 100 mph bursting your guts to get things finished in time.

i would go with the bg and insurance work as well ,glad your busy and are able to choose, different circumstances for us 2 plumbers so strait forward

Ok, from memory, where were you sitting?.. See the extremely good looking guy sitting down at the right hand side of the board two up?............... I was next to him! lol..
Sounds like a good number the BG job. Off the tools and just filling in paperwork? That'll do me nicely, especially as I can do it in my own time.

if you were standing infront of the board facing outwards I would of been at the top left, then you had a guy in his 40s or so and a guy in his 50s.

Yeah ano seems like a good number, still waiting on the prices for the surveying but if were getting surveying work and inspection work then seems good to me🙂 I just have to find out now if these social housing guys will mind if I leave my bro on site to do the plumbing and I nip down from time to time to connect the gas hobs😛 I think we'll have to go back for an induction for the surveying work so I'll prob see you there

I think I remember you, anyway, yeah if we get another induction for surevys Ill be there. Ive just told my SM I'm going over to the Scottish exec and he's been ok, but if I want work next week I have to go up to Aberdeen.. erm no thanks.. so Im finishing up with BG on the servicing side on thurs. Hopefully this Scottish exec work will come through in the next couple of weeks. Mind you Im doing my Heat pump course next week anyway, so that will keep me occupied.

ok well went to see about the housing contract yesterday, its too good to bodyswerve the money is unreal and its a years rolling contract and the guy is trying to get more so said we may need to take on more guys later, starting on monday so will see how much they need my van on the first week, i think its only a morning trip and a trip when were finished to the yard to pick up materials/discard rubbish so if they dont need it all day then I'll see if I can take on the BG work also and take someone on to be on the job perminent.
