Just replaced the fill valve in toilet, the old one seemed to be completely broken and was not cutting off water supply when cistern full.

The new one works but when the cistern is full and it cuts off the water supply it makes a large 'honking' noise for want of a better description, noise lasts about a second or two then stops and noise only starts at the point the cistern is full/water into cistern is being cut off.

The fill valve came with two different flow restrictors for low and high pressure water supply and I have tried with both restrictors and the same noise in both instances.

Please can someone tell me anything else I could try/check or do I need to take the fill-valve back to the shop?

This valve is a cheap Diall Torbeck one for just under £10, I'm guessing it's ultra sh*t quality being so cheap, hence the silly noise!!

Thanks .....

Scrap the torbec that is the cause of the problem. Fit a Dudley hydroflo or fluid master pro 45b job done 🙂

Whatever was modified on the Torbeck valves, - it ruined them!
They used to be near silent and reliable, with only a filter requiring cleaning.
Then the newer models were noisier, passing water & unfixable.
Whoever designed the newer Torbecks just lost the company business.
They should have known if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Torbeck valves are rubbish, nightmare to repair and problematic with very high pressure

Get a Fluidmaster valve, from PTS or PCentre, a black and red valve about £15, I dont fit anything else to be honest
