good morning guys, just signed up and ready to go.... I can't call myself a DIYer in gas as I don't plan on touching any pipework but it would be nice to know a few regs so when I'm near a gas pipe I don't come into conflict with gas regs. At the moment I'm helping my daughter move into an old terraced house that needs a lot of work. I have had to cut a trench across the living room concrete floor so the gas man can put a new boiler into the kitchen. I haven't a clue what size pipe he is using so please don't ask but what depth must there above the gas pipe, should the bottom of the trench be lined with sand so the pipe lies on a soft bed. Also I'm looking at this trench and thinking it would be so easy to run some plastic radiator pipes in there as well. Is this a big no or is there a minimum distance they must be. And finally some electrics have to be re routed. At the moments its like a birds nest under the boards, is there a minimum distance I can clip electric next to gas or get an insulator of some kind...... A lot of question for a new post but I thought I might get it all out in one go. Thanking all in advance for any help.

Welcome to the madhouse.

The maximum size gas pipe your guy will install is 28mm.

Why not get him on site, give him a cuppa and have a chat with him, I'm sure he'd appreciate it and you'd know exactly how he's thinking.

Gas and electric cables must be 25mm apart

Insulate heating pipes - the slab will zapp the heat out of them.

Gas pipe should be 25mm below ground and of a correct material and protected! Best let your gas man advise you as it's his balls when it goes wrong. YOU CANNOT INSTALL PIPe

Welcome along yasser. Like said have a chat with your engineer and he will make sure that everything is up to spec.

thanks boys for the replies. As I said he,s doing all the gas work late next week so I'm just cutting the trench. I just didn't know if I was cutting it 100mm or 200mm deep but I Suppose somewhere in between would be good, give him a chance to dress the bottom if needed. Once again thanks for the replies.
