No water from the hot water tap

Hi there, I have just joined after finding some of the posts really helpful.

Problem.Before installing the new immersion heater to the cylinder I drained the system and turned off the mains. I installed the new immersion heater and turned the water back on. It seems to be heating the water as pipes at the top of the cylinder are hot.
Problem is I can get no water from the hot water taps at all. The water is running freely from the cold water taps and the feeder tank is back to its former level and I am sure I heard water going back into the cylinder.
There is a pressure gauge near the cylinder that is at zero!!

Can anyone help?

Did you not check to make sure water was coming out of the taps before you turned the immersion on?

I'd say an airlock.

it is an open vented system? best cure for airlocks is flushing with mains pressure. my way is by connecting the hot and cold wm valves. there should be a good few threads on airlocks if you search

Sorry to sound thick but how do I tell if its an open vented system?
I'll check the threads on airlocks for cylinders

Hi To help clear air it may be easiest to turn off w/machine valves using existing hoses disconnect from machine and form a loop with one hose from hot to cold valve. Turn both on for say 10 seconds turn off and check results via the hot tap at say kitchen sink.

has the pressure guage got anything to do with the hot water cylinder or is it for the heating circuit. thereare a few ways of getting rid of the airlock, but most involve connecting the hot to the cold and blasting the air back into the cylinder.

I think the gauge is for the heating
I read one thread that advised that if I turn the cold water feed to the cylinder off and attach a hose to the cylinder bleed it would force cold water into the tank and clear the airlock, would that work?

It will most probably be an airlock. We know its open vented because you told us you have a feeder tank. Do you have any mixer taps in the kitchen? If so just squeeze your hand over the spout and turn both taps on (so that the cold water runs back up the hot pipe at the kitchen sink). If you have just normal deck taps, get a hose and connect both hot and cold and turn them both on.

What you are doing is pushing the pressure of the cold main back into the cylinder and up the vent in order to clear the airlock. If this doesnt work your best bet is to clear it from the loft or wherever your storage tank is.
