Hi Guys

am out of ideas here

everything works perfectly - no smells, leaks or physical problems anywhere

Problem -
  • when upstairs toilet is flushed the internal air admittance valve makes one hell of a racket
  • a loud rattling noise - as if the valve is opening and closing really quickly
  • no noise when bath is emptied or when sink is emptied.
  • have changed the valve and same things happens. Any ideas????
Downstairs toilet (on same stack) does not cause the valve (at the top of the stack - internal to house) to make any noise. Just flushing the upstairs toilet causes the problem. Emptying the bath or using the sink does not cause the noise.

Very irritating and embarrassing for me as an ex-Royal Navy Artificer my wife is now convinced I was badly trained.......:censored:

Ensure that the AAV is fitted above the flood line of the highest appliance unless you use the new triple A rated ones from Floplast. It sounds to me like you need to fit a new siphon in the cistern and while doing so check the fill valve.

Hi

thanks for the reply - I have already changed the Toilet fill and syphon (which made no difference to the problem) - but now have on order a Floplast AAV - hopefully that will solve the issue. I am sure however that there is enough height between base of AAV and highest flood line - but it is less than 200mm so that may be the problem - will post after I fit the new AAV type.

cheers

Frank
