Hi
I have never posted here and hope someone can help with a plumbing problem I am having (I say novice but I know sweet FA about plumbing)

I have 2 bathrooms upstairs in my house (1 en suite) the house is about 10-12yrs old.

Recently the taps on the sink in en suite stopped working. Sometimes nothing comes out others some water will come out then go to trickle and stop. This happens with both hot and cold Taps. We have to use main bathroom tapsfor a couple of weeks then the taps will start working again on their own. Then the main bathroom taps will show the same problem (sometimes the hot will stop working in one roo
and the cold in the other - never both cold or both hot at same time will stop working ). At first I thought the taps were faulty and took off the outer cover cleaned them and tightened the circlip (well that's what my dad calls it) sometimes this helps others no difference. I was starting to wonder if it was a water pressure problem (could all taps fail then start working again?).
The bath taps and shower have never had a problem with pressure.

Are my taps needing replaced? Is it something else possibly? Recently the toilet hasn't been filling up fully in en suite either (but in main bathroom no problems). We get a lot of black build up in shower and taps and toilet cistern and I wondered if that might be an issue

anyway I am tight as anything and don't want to call s plumber out or replace taps until I have a good idea that I need to do this.

Based on the above (I can answer more questions if anyone thinks they can help) can anyone help?

I have a feeling that for you knowledgable people the answer may simple and obvious but I know nothing about plumbing.

Hi! Chimpboy74,

Its sounds like a water problem. But its hard to say without knowing what sort of water system you have.

Do you have a combi boiler and so many more questions?

at a guess. as i have not seen your system. it seems like,
you have a cold tank in loft that is partially blocked,
dropped tap washers,
air lock in pipes.

Thanks. Sounds like it's something beyond my skills.

You have been a great help. At least I know it's not something simple I could fix myself.
