Hi all,

Does anyone here have, by any chance, a list of outputs for the older myson roundtop radiators. The ones without the convector fins? A Landlord i do work for has been told by a damp "specialist" that the heating is undersized which is why there's black mold on the walls and windows! He's asked me to check out the system. Visually it looks undersized and the rooms aren't exactly the warmest, however I would like to give him an acurate assesment. Most of the radiators are the old Myson round-top type.

Bye the way, I don't think the mold has anything to do with the heating system, it's been in 30ish years and the only time the mold has been an issue has been since the new tenants moved in less than a year ago. Young family with a new born baby! They insist that they don't dry their clothes on the rads!

The house itself has no ventilation in any of the rooms, and is Double glazed! The mold is in the bedrooms upstairs! Just some additional info I thought you'd like to know. However if anyone has, or can direct me towards a chart of output sizes for the old round-tops I'd be mighty grateful.. 🙂

Cheers .. )

Steve

Ventillation cures Mold, not heating.

However if the rooms are already too cold and slow to warm up, then the Tennants may be reluctant to open the windows for a short period daily.

Seem to remember when fins came into being they upped the output by 50%
So to get back to non finned you need 66% of a finned rad of equal size (approx)

Exactly what I told the Landlord snowhead 🙂

I don't know why the "expert" didn't notice the lack of ventilation .... Apparently he touched the radiators in the rooms, reckoned they were not putting enough heat into the room and that was the cause! Weird...!

Count it out at 1000 watts/m2 for singles and 1725 watts/m2 for doubles for a 50Δ T.
Not far away at that Steve.

I've always used this for old rads

Brilliant link Roger .. Many thanks.. Now down to some sizing work.

I have found a couple of the old Thorn/Myson rad lists. Sadly I threw most out years ago & often wished I hadn't.
It should be noted that the outputs on old lists were rated too high.
Here are some rad sizes to give you something to work on & compare with.
Only double rad I can clearly remember the list output was a 21x45 double (no fins) which was I believe 4700 btus.
My old list has Myson HE round tops singles (non finned) 21" high rads - 37" long = 2315, 45" long= 2799, 53" long= 3280, 61" long = 3750, 69" long= 4238 btus.
I also have the 15" high & 27" high single rads outputs. Obviously for double sizes the output is a tad lower than double these singles.
