been saying that a lot recently, so Mrs sent me to docs, who sent me for a hearing test, at Specsavers!!! ffs. Anyhow apart from doing a hearing test in a room that wasnt sound proof, so I was trying to hear lickle noises through the babble of the shop noise. Anyhow, right ear is brilliant, hearing in high and very low frequency, left ear almost stone deaf. Bit unusual so off to the hospital for further look, just means that now I now that I dont have to suffer listening to the Mrs when I'm driving now, mind you that was probably the cause of the ear failure anyhow. 🙂🙂

Mrs also feeling guilty as I have been saying for ages you never told me that, and as I'm normally off out when she told me, the old deaf ear was in her direction 🙂

So my question to the team, is this a useful thing to have and to be used in emergencies only, or do I use it at all opportunities?

My dad has suffered with selective hearing for years. He swears blind he can't hear my mum but the truth is he picks chooses what he hears.
A rare serious question lame, don't you have to have eyes and ears tested for the lifeboat thing?

yes for eyes and they check your hearing as well, hence one of the reasons i skuttled off to the docs, but I can hear fine with the other hole and thats the one I use on the radio, also the fact we have 2 lugholes, if one isnt working ok, the old brain compensates and you dont notice really, or so the audio lady told me. Also most of my time is spent wearing ear muffs in the engine room looking after the big noisy things, so dont need ears 🙂 Also not stone deaf just cant hear the female voice frequencies it seems 🙂

As my wife and i have noticed, the male hearing frequency range alters with age. I prefer to liken it to evolution as the body changes itself to counter the onslaught of physical challenges which present themselves in many different forms.The female voice transmits in a frequency which is harmful if exposed to for prolonged periods, so the male body protects itself by blocking this frequency from the audible range........the human body is a truly wonderful thing..........pardon?

I'm 95% deaf in my left ear.
it has it's downsides like 24 hr tinnitus for the last 8 years.but. I can do selective hearing and I'm half price on ear plugs.

Why would you need ear plugs if you are deaf in one ear and have tinnitus in the other which cant be blocked out?

the tinnitus is in the deaf ear! ( don't ask me how that works?)
the ear plugs are to protect the good ear from bad noises. Like nagging customers and snoring wives.:32:
