Can I ask the forum a few questions, I was recently offered a job on the cards for £140 a day with van and tools. I politely declined. But what would you consider a fair wage if you were taking someone on in the following conditions,
1) sub contractor only.
2) sub contractor with you supplying van
3) sub contractor with you supplying van and tools and fuel card.
4) on the cards.

bare in mind this is if you were taking someone on, not being taken on.

Cheers Adam

Sorry Aldershot, so north east Hampshire 5 mins away from Surrey and 40 miles ish central London

I'm currently on £120 a day subbing 5 days a week with my own van and tools, although i make it up with my additional work of my own

Jeeze it may be about right but it sure doesn't feel right for a gas safe engineer, thank you for your answers.

its different in my area, I was talking to 2 separate companies last month about work.
one offered £10/hour and one offered £8/hour.
both were on the cards with van

self employed here with own tools and van wont run much more than £25/hour

(south/mid Wales)

Hi Adam just quirios as you mentioned plant room's good gas commercial combustion engineers may be on more dosh.....regards Turnpin:smile5:

From talking to them it just seemed like system boilers unvented and ufh. Maybe I'm like a Bruce Springsteen song dreaming of glory days of £250 again :smoking:

It was install work for "high end" refurbishment work plant rooms boilers etc

There where offering you £140 a day to do plant rooms
But you only do domestic so you really wouldn't of had a clue what you was sounds more than fair

It wasn't really plant rooms when I dug down into it, it was unvented and system boilers.
But thanks for telling me I wouldn't know what I was doing, when you have no idea what experience I have or that I'm just doing domestic now.

question is, what do you earn now and what do you feel is worthwhile to work for someone else? if one is less than the other, you have your answer.

As a subby I get £200 for a combi swap plus extras. 225 system to combi 250 bbu to combi

Usually 400-450 for heating system up to 7 rads.

Or I could be on a day rate for £150. I prefer to be earning at least £200 a day though and straight combi swaps for £200 are ideal works out about 35-40 an hour
